Didn't Quite Make It

A$1,666.00

Acrylic on found aluminium composite.

655 x 1050 mm framed in scorched recycled wood.

A handful of souls, despite the odds, made it off planet to the hastily constructed Orbital Platform.

Records found in the Admin Segment showed cost cutting measures to the design, production, operation and maintenance departments in the decades leading up to the launch window.
The measures provided a modest increase to the dividend each time that most shareholders were quite happy to receive and financial records showed that the majority of those shareholders used the equivalent of the windfall to eagerly upgrade the features of their Planetary Escape Capsules.

The departure records sent just before the calamity showed short-staffed departure points meant that only 15% of evacuees were correctly loaded.
Unfortunately only 2% of launch sites had sufficient power online during the takeoff window anyway.

Arrival records at the Orbital Platform showed the few who made it were simply a statistically insignificant handful of outliers outnumbered by a surprisingly small number of Platform Operation Staff who were already rationing food.

Finding nothing but static on all channels the two groups realised there was nobody left to tell just as the last wheeze of breathable air rattled out of the Platform’s flimsy ventilation systems. The lights flickered off, then on for a bit, then off.
